Awesome Highlighter is a free reference site and toolkit for highlighting text on the web. It offers a highlight link generator and a bookmarklet, both of which run in your browser and store nothing, and a set of guides on highlighting for reading, sharing and study.

Ownership and history. The domain carried a free tool of the same name from 2008 to about 2014. That tool and its company are gone; nothing from them was transferred. The site was relaunched in 2026 by new owners who are not affiliated with the original founders. We kept the name and the tagline because the job is the same, and we say so plainly wherever it matters. The history page has the full account.
Editor. The site is edited by Nora Feld, who has spent her working life helping students and researchers read on screens: first in an academic library's research-skills service, then writing documentation for reading and annotation software. She writes and checks every page, keeps the browser-support notes current, and answers the contact form. Bylines on the site are hers; there are no guest posts and no generated filler.
Editorial standards. Every claim about how a browser or app behaves is tested before it is published and re-checked at each quarterly rebuild; each page shows the month it was last reviewed. Study advice cites the research it rests on, by author and year, in a sources list. Third-party products are named factually when they are the subject of a page; none pays to appear, and the site carries no advertising, no sponsored content and no affiliate links. When our own tools are not the right answer, we say which tool is.
What we store. Nothing about you. The tools assemble links in your browser and send nothing to us: what you type and what you highlight never leave your device. The site sets no cookies; it remembers your light or dark theme choice in your browser's local storage only. To see which pages are read, the site uses privacy-first, cookieless analytics provided by its hosting network, which counts page views, referring sites and page speed in aggregate, with no personal data, no cross-site tracking and no advertising. The privacy page is short because there is little to say.

What the site is for. Pointing people at exactly the passage you mean is a small courtesy that the web made hard for twenty years and then, quietly, made easy. We want that to be common knowledge, and we want people who highlight to study to know what the evidence says about it. That is the whole mission.
